Whet Yr Whittle / Schnitzsessionimgarten – Schnitzen & Bier

10. August 2019 / 18:00 - 20:00

Grunewald Foraging is happy to host its first greenwood carving event – Whet Yr Whittle, or, ‚Schnitzsessionimgarten‘, an evening of creativity, craft and mutual inspiration, a bodger’s circle in the potato fields of the lovely Prinzessinnengarten on Moritzplatz.

If you’re interested in spoon- and other kitchen utensil carving, ornamental woodwork, traditional Swedish carving (Slöyd), making Nordic ale-bowls, combs, beads, dishes, cutting boards, butter-spreaders, or just want to have a go at greenwood carving, this is a great event to get underway and to meet crafters, share techniques and soak up some inspiration.

Traditional greenwood carving is a mediatative, challenging and rewarding pastime and all we need are a few tools to get started. These are supplied (axe, knife, saw) for the session, as is the green (unseasoned) wood out of which you will make your design piece.

After the session there will be a ‚tools down/knees up‘ gathering where we can come together over some fine craft beer (for more info about that, please email), answer craft questions, share tips, and discuss all things crafty or otherwise and to begin to develop a little craft community of our own.

Seasoned crafters who are looking for a base are also welcome: together we have the opportunity to build some more substantial greenwood working tools such as shave-horses, pole-lathes etc., and even to invite renowned craftspeople to host further events.

The event costs 25€ per person (the proceeds of which will be reinvested into providing a range of tools and equipment for future sessions) and should be paid to jon.hamnett@gmail.com via PayPal.

For more information please write to grunewaldforaging@gmail.com.

I look forward to hearing from you.
